Match report from yesterday’s Junior Munster Camogie game
An amalgamated Junior team with players from Killarney, Causeway & Sliabh Luachra camogie clubs competed in the Munster Camogie Mai O’Connell Junior Competition playing the Banner in Fr McNamara Park Ennis yesterday.
A total of 19 players travelled to Ennis in what was to be their first time playing together. The Banner opened the scoring with a point. Aine Walsh(S.L) followed up with a well taken goal which was shortly followed by another goal kicked to the net by Megan Gillespie(K). Our backs were playing well as a unit driving out on numerous occasions with some well worked moves. The Banner had the next point, but the Killarney girls responded with two points from Orla Cronin & Chloe McCarthy following some good team work. The Banner had the final say with 2 points from 2 frees. H/T with the Kerry girls having a slight lead 2-02 Banner 0-05.
2nd half and a few positional changes and all subs on. Orla(K) got the opening score. The Banner dominated for the next 10 minutes, getting 2 points from play and 1 from a free. Jennifer(C) responded with two well taken points to push it out to 2-05 to 0-08. A free for Banner which they converted followed up by 2 points from play. Into the final minutes of the game and no matter how hard they tried, neither team could end the deadlock. Into extra time we went.10 minutes a half. A lot of tired bodies go back out.
Orla(K) got us up and running with a fine point. The Banner responded with a pointed free. Jennifer(C) got a point. Time is running out. The Banner get a free and somehow managed to get a goal from it. Puck out taken quickly but unfortunately time is against us. Full time whistle.
Final score AET Killarney 2-07 Banner 1-12. A two point loss. For a team that was just put together on the day, not a bad result at all.
Very proud of the team’s performance and look forward to playing Tournafulla (Limerick) next Saturday. Our thanks to Banner for a very sporting game. Our thanks to Munster Camogie & Kerry Camogie for facilitating this fixture yesterday.
